No, what Im describing is a label for display only. On a hidden column, the only function of the label is for the developer, in the designer client.

The @dblookup function has some performance improvements if you read data from a column instead of reading from a field, that is not directly stored in a column. Also optimization can be done so that you perform one dblookup to get multiple data items, then use text manipulation to "@explode" them back out.

I'm sure Ron, Jim, et. al. would be very interested in hearing how frustrated you've been with Dominofiles, and I suspect your hotmail address is probably just getting flagged as spam or something. Try sending it again and include me, then I'll do a reply to all and see if I can't make contact. I'll call if that doesn't work.

As for DominoFiles, I've never tried to shut off the flow so I didn't realize they were that dysfunctional on the customer responsiveness front. Definitely a huge No No, and something that RPRWyatt, the Intelliprint guys, and others should hammer them on. Otherwise I find it more useful to hear about these tools than not, and if managed well I wouldn't classify their messages as spam. It was kinda fun though.

In my research I found a warning dated 1993 that there might be issues with the "IsTextUnicode" function in the windows API, but, for the life of me I can't find the URL again.

http://weblogs.asp.net/cumpsd/archive/2004/02/27/81098.aspx appears to predate http://www.wincustomize.com/articles.aspx?aid=117870&c=1 by over 2 years.

I plucked throught the windows API and put together a little script for testing purposes, based on

Declare Function IsTextUnicode Lib "advapi32" (lpBuffer , Byval Length As Integer, options As Integer) As Integer

http://www.dwightwilbanks.org/dwightwilbanks/blog.nsf/655A5CE12942C3988025712F007D0697/E1E1FB2E5E9915BD8625718F008258D0/$file/checkisunicode01.lss

In summary, its been broke since at least windows 3.51 (probably 3.5), its as the result of how the core windows function determine if a memory object without a BOM (byte order mask) is unicode. In short, the api function tries to determine what type text is in the file. Did it come from a mac? Did it come from China? And in some circumstances it figures it out wrong.

There were suggestions that the API should be fixed, but, if it was "fixed", then some dude in Japan is going to sit down with his notepad, open a file and start cussing about all the latin characters in shopping list.

Comment From Chris Whisonant

Saw this at Digg the other day.

Basically to do it, I copy/pasted the $$ReturnGeneralError (or one of them) form back into blogsphere and renamed to $$LoginUserForm

Then I zapped the entire contents of <div class="StoryContents">
and pasted in the contents of the table from domcfg.nsf $$LoginUserForm, I used just the inner table and pasted in the hidden fields at the bottom.

I took the contents of the computed value from the IBM $$LoginUserForm and pasted that into the computed value insidet the blogsphere <span class="StoryTitleText">
